Introduction to Search Engine Optimization

What is SEO?

Have you ever searched for something on Google or another search engine and noticed that your query yielded 43,567,392 results, or some such astronomical number? Obviously, you didn't examine all these results, or you wouldn't be reading this... you'd still be examining them. You probably didn't get past the first page of results and certainly didn't go beyond the third. You clicked on one of the first listings and ignored the rest. Continued....

It's nearly impossible to rank well in Google or stay in the Yahoo Search Engine at all if you don't have good link popularity. Continued...

Local Search, Google Base, Yahoo Shopping...

How Much Does It Cost?

For over a decade, I have been a one-man SEO firm, working out of a home office in Southeast Iowa. A Madison Avenue SEO company might be better suited to handle American Airlines' account, but my services are ideal and much more affordable for small to medium-sized companies. Unfortunately, Search Engine Optimization does not yield instant results; it's a long-term undertaking. If you are looking for a quick search engine presence, we should set up pay-per-click (PPC) accounts with Google AdWords and maybe also MS adCenter. This will get you the immediate exposure you're looking for when people search for your keyword phrases. PPC ads usually start displaying the same day you set up your account. But influencing the "free" search engines is like turning an ocean liner. You turn, but the response is not immediate. With luck, you'll miss the iceburg. Continued...
