Google Sitemaps is an easy way for you to submit all your URLs to the Google index and get detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on Google. Here’s what you have to do:
- Download software to make the sitemap. I’ve been using GSiteCrawler, which is free.
- Upload the sitemap this software creates for you to the root level of your site. The software will do it for you if you enter your FTP settings.
- Tell Google the sitemap is there by registering. Don’t forget to follow the verification instructions.
- Generate and upload a new sitemap every time you add or remove pages.
Using Google sitemaps is particularly important for large sites, dynamically generated sites, and sites which add or remove pages often, but Google recommends that all sites do it. And if Google recommends it, then “Yours is not to reason why....”
